Hi again Brad,

Thanks for your prompt replies to my other threads.

I have just thought of another couple of features that would be handy:

1. In the Recent list, it would be good to have the option to show the full path of the recently opened files. I know I can roll the mouse over them, but all of my tailed files have the same name so it takes a while to go through them all My files are always in the format \\sys2350\c$\...\xxxxx.log for example.

2. It would also be handy to have the option to load the full file upon opening. I deal with virtual machines with a lot of snapshots and often the log files have things left over from the last time they have run, but I have to open them in a separate text editor in order to search them. However, sometimes these files are quite large so an option to load the last few lines, as it does now, would be nice.

Regards,

Hi, this issue is rather weird. I can't seem to replicate the exact steps that caused this, but it has happened more than once. On the one hand I can see it being annoying for people (which is why I'm reporting it), but on the other hand, by using the correct font, I actually prefer what it does to my Windows font

I was messing around with different fonts and I noticed that my entire Start Bar fonts changed to the same font! I also use VMware ESX and it even changed the fonts inside that! It seems that anything that is based on the default Windows font (Start Bar buttons, the Windows time, Songbird, browser's address bars, etc.) will be changed to the same font selected in Tail Ace. The font will stay like this until the computer is restarted.

I don't mind if this isn't fixed, but thought that perhaps other people had found it but hadn't reported it.

Hi,

First of all, I would just like to say that this software has been great for me! I really like the layout and it is so much better than the other tail programs I've been using. Anyway, I have a couple of small feature requests that would make this software even better! Please consider these - I hope they aren't too hard to implement

1. In my favourites list I have a pile of files named \\sys1915\c$\....; \\sys1916\c$\....; \\sys2250\c$...; etc and these are referring to servers that I use which are often in pairs or more. So currently, I must add them to my favourites list in the order I want them to appear. I probably have about 30 (and counting) in there. So would it be possible to have a "sort" button, or just sort them automatically by name, or have the ability to manually reorder (ie: drag/drop) the list? It would make it a whole lot easier for me to find the server I'm looking for!

2. When opening a file (or adding it to the favourites list), I noticed that it is not possible to hit Enter in order to bring up the directory in the location box. For example, say I enter \\sys1915\c$ in the location box, then hit Enter, nothing happens. I would like to be able to type the \\server\share location, press Enter (which is the same as clicking "Open") and have it to go to that location, and then be able to use the mouse from there to navigate to the specific file.

Funnily enough, no. 2 is the only thing holding a friend back from using this software, so if this is implemented he won't have any excuses

Thanks once again for making such useful software... that's free!
Excellent tool! Congratulations!
I have a question: do the filters work? I have defined two filters: one including filter with the text ABC and one excluding filter with the text 123. Both checkboxes next to the filter definitions are checked. I expected to only have lines containing the text ABC but not 123 being displayed. However, the filters seem to have no effect whatsoever. Did I miss anything?
Thanks

As I'm learning the program, here's a couple of suggested features:
1) I think Tom alluded to this in his "Various Improvements" thread, but the ability to plan how each paycheck will be spent, e.g. allow for the allocation of $$ from each paycheck, similar to the "envelope" approach to budgeting. Currently the program only allows for "retroactive" budgeting based on what is spent rather than "projection" budgeting, how much one plans on spending for each category. This would require making the categories independent of spending (if they aren't already) and being able to access them within the paycheck menu. Also have the categories always available rather than having to bring them in from the previous month.

2) This is more of an "I'd really like..." feature but instead of potentially having to pull down two menus (if crossing years like I am now) to go back to a previous month (Dec. 2007) or to the current month (Jan. '08), how about having a "go to" menu with selections such as "current month", "previous/last month" and then the chance to select a month. Or have three menu buttons: "current month", "last month" and then something like there is currently with the pull down for month & year.

Brad.....Any thought to perhaps providing a data export facility ? Maybe Excel, CSV, or other ? I'm working to see if I can use this program (and, it looks VERY positive so far) as an adjunct to an Enterprise ERP system's rudimentary Budgeting facility, to allow me to monitor multiple budget accounts each month, & if I could 'link' both the front and back end of your program, it would work wonderfully.

Since you are using XML, this actually might even work better than I know yet, since our ERP system is heavily invested in the XML-world.

I continue to be amazed by your program....it's absolutely great !
I am just in the process of setting up my budget accounts for next year, & when I attempted to print a report, I got a Windows error that the output report could not be found. Any ideas ?

Hello....I'd like to find out if I can store my budget files on my home network, rather than the local hard drive of my pc. I don't see a config option to do that, however, & wonder if that's possible ? Please advise ASAP, as I just purchased the software & really would like to better protect my data files where they can be backed up on tape.

It may be a good idea to add a "Toggle" button to "Word color setup" dialog; it would invert selection of color filters. Examples:

1) I have filter 1 checked and filters 2 and 3 not selected; clicking "Toggle" button would flip my selection to: 1 is not checked, 2 and 3 are selected;

2) I have 15 Word color filters set up, none are checked at this time; I click the toggle button and all 15 are now checked.

Thank You!!

1) it is possible to position popup menu partially outside the screen making some menu items unreachable by mouse; popup menu's bottom and right edge should not go outside desktop boundaries.
2) popup menu does not despawn;
- scenario 1: right-click on some text in tail-ed file, then, without selecting anything from popup, click "About" button; "About" dialog shows up with popup still hanging in there.
